The media today are awash with "green" stories about an electric sports car being introduced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The $80,000 Karma (interesting name) is being built and marketed by Fisker Automotive in Irvine, Calif. Reportedly, the Karma can go 50 miles on a single charge from a household 120-volt outlet.
This brought up some interesting musings on my part.
Suppose I came up with the money (unlikely) to buy one of these, here’s what I envisioned: It’s my wedding anniversary, which it actually is this Saturday, and I decide to take my wife to dinner in Laguna Beach, where the best restaurants around here seem to be. Laguna is about 35 miles from my home, maybe a few less. So what do I do when I get to the restaurant, bring along a 100-foot electric extension cord and ask the valet attendant to charge the car for me in order to make the trip home?
I can see electric cables running out the front door of every fancy hangout in Southern California.
Cute, that. Impractical too. I guess the Karma is good only for going to the local 7-11 to show off.
