The Los Angeles Dodgers, since the sale by the O’Malley Family, have distinguished themselves as the front runners in drug (steroids) dealing and covering it up while not winning a single postseason series, and also in heaving the greatest hot-air balloons in major league baseball history.
Quote Vin Scully when the Dodgers acquired Wilson Betamit: "The best young player in baseball."
Mr. Betamit was unceremoniously traded at the first possible opportunity when he proved he couldn’t field or hit consistently.
Now, following years of utter bullshit about their club, the Dodgers wasted just three days in signing a player from the George Mitchell Report on steroid abusers–catcher Gary Bennett.
Owner Frank McCourt and General Manager Ned Collettii huffed and puffed about doing their due diligence to make sure they wouldn’t sign a steroid monster, but who’s kidding whom? They could care less, and they proved it by signing this guy, whose admission of steroid use was that, basically, he tried it once and it was a mistake. He didn’t inhale.
What we have here is the Bill Clintonization of baseball and probably of America, though few people on the sports talk circuit are buying these scripted excuses by the Mitchellees.
Nonetheless, the public could care less, I’m sure.
Just bring on the wins and home runs and we’re happy, the mantra goes.
McCourt also raised prices while signing Bennett.
Oh, sad, sad day.
