Up till now, there has been virtually no incentive to steal a blue U.S. mail collection box, but that may soon be changing.
I’ve seen "Stop" signs and other such public memorabilia in people’s homes, garages and ateliers, but never a mailbox.
No doubt if you stole one with mail in it, you’d be subject to a felony and lots of hard time, so I’m not advising any such vandalism here. I’m just musing whether the new R2D2-wrapped collection boxes might prove too tempting for some enterprising youth when they appear this May in honor of the 30th anniversary of Star Wars.
The United States Postal Service (USPS), in cahoots with Lucasfilm, plans to wrap 200 big city boxes with the R2D2 outer shell, shown in this photo both finished and under wrapment.
