I’ve just finished watching the UNC-Georgetown Elite Eight basketball showdown. Now, it was indeed a good game to watch, but what struck me was this:
Patrick Ewing Jr., son of Georgetown and New York Knicks basketball legend Patrick Ewing Sr., is on the current Hoyas team, which prevailed in the end. What cracked me up was that the son’s jersey, or whatever they call it, was imprinted with ”Ewing Jr.”
Give me a break. You’re only junior when the full name is present, not when just the last name is shown.
Now, John Thompson III is the coach, he the son of Ewing Sr. coach John Thompson. If he wore a jersey, would it say “Thompson III”?
Let’s get real, enough deference already. What do you think the media would do if President Bush wanted the moniker of George III? That would be a field day.
Only in the PC world of the university….
