With no announcement that I recall or any accompanying explanation, the Wall Street Journal arrived on my driveway this morning sans one full column and shrunken in width to almost magazine size. What’s going on?
Already, the newspaper with the largest circulation in the U.S. had begun accepting ads on its front page this past year, perhaps earlier, so this is a sign of trouble over at Dow Jonesland. Staff reductions, cuts in newspaper expense, probable travel restrictions and the like–sure signs that the Webosphere is striking at another venerable institution.
Can you imagine a world withou the WSJ? Whom could Bill and Hillary blame for everything from staff suicides to global warming? Now, that would be a loss.
