Do the aphorisms and observations of Benjamin franklin and his Poor Richard still apply, or are we beyond hope and salvation?



Everett Dirksen used to quip about “a million here and a million there” and pretty soon you’re talking about real money.  But what about a billion, and what about a billion people?

Here are some interesting stats about people worldwide:

There are 6.5 billion of us two-legged, upright, carbon-based creatures.  Of that total, one billion are younger than 10.  And here’s the clincher–about 3 billion live on less than $2 a day! Still, another 3 billion have cell phones.

Therefore, the demarcation line between subsistence and joining the civilized world is, of all things, the cell phone.  “Mr. Watson, come here!” now takes on an ominous meaning.
