Mr. Unlucky’s Almanack

Do the aphorisms and observations of Benjamin franklin and his Poor Richard still apply, or are we beyond hope and salvation?

Yes, Virginia, there is a global warming industry out there this Christmastime–and all year–and it’s got nothing to do with American industry or manufacturing, but everything to do with scare mongerers and get-on-the-band-wagoners.

Paul Avery clearly identifies two patterns to the global warming hysteria. First, an announcement of new evidence of global warming is made to much fanfare and great headlines and TV coverage. Then, a few months later, sober scientists examine the claims and pronounce them bunk, but no headlines, stories or reports on TV or radio are generated.

The intensity of recent hurricanes, blamed by Hillary Clinton and other notable scientists on global warming when Katrina struck, is one such example. It turns out, upon examination of the real evidence, that tropical storm activity has actually abated over the past decade or so.

I’ve been around long enough to remember the Time and Newsweek cover stories on the “Second Ice Age” back in the 1970s. Now we’re into global warming. This latest bogus phenomenon will probably stick because it can a) lead to new taxes and b) be pinned on every liberal’s favorite culprit–American enterprise and capitalism.
